The plantar fascia of the foot is a thick band of connective tissue that extends from the toes, through the arch to the heel.
The plantar tendon prevents the arch from completely flattening when weight is placed on the foot, providing cushioning while running, walking or standing. This connective tissue is also used when pointing the toes upwards.
Plantar fasciitis is any injury to this tendon and is the most common cause of heel pain. It’s been noted approximately 10% of the population will suffer from plantar fasciitis at some point during their lifetime.
