Ear Infections
Many chiropractors believe that there is a strong link between the birthing process and recurrent ear infections, also known as otitis media. During the birthing process, cervical (neck) vertebrae can become misaligned, disrupting nerve function which can affect the eustachian tube. This may lead to fluid buildup in the middle ear and cause otitis media. Antibiotics, the general treatment given to clear up ear infections, are not always effective and overuse of antibiotics has been linked to “super viruses,” in which the human body builds up a tolerance to the antibitoics. Chiropractic treatment is a conservative, non-invasive, drug-free approach to consider trying if your child has a history of chronic ear infections.

Treatment
Most chiropractors are trained to evaluate pediatric spinal problems and will use gentle, specific skills to identify, evaluate, and treat any involved spinal areas. The exam is painless, however, very young infants and children sometimes become momentarily afraid at the sudden movement and “popping” sound, and may cry for a few seconds.

How Many Treatments Are Required?
Children’s spines are a lot more mobile than those of adults and as a result, usually require only a few adjustments to restore normal function. The actual number of adjustments, however, may vary depending on the length of time that the condition has been present.
